Zinc borate containing crystal water is suitable for flame-retardant materials processed at lower temperatures. In
contrast, anhydrous zinc borate (2ZnO·3B₂O₃) , being free of crystal water, exhibits a higher thermal decomposition
temperature. It demonstrates a weight loss below 1% at 400°C and maintains stability even at 600°C. As a flame retar
dant and smoke suppressant, anhydrous zinc borate can be used in high-temperature polymer systems requiring
processing temperatures above 290°C, such as high-temperature nylons, polyesters, polyetheretherketone (PEEK),
polysulfones, and fluoropolymers.
